To best care for the product, store it in a well ventilated spot, away from heat and sunlight, since extreme changes in temperature will affect the beechwood. Soaking the tray will also warp the wood, so never wash it in the dishwasher and always dry it thoroughly after wiping it clean with mild soap and water. The real measurement is 18" [the longer tray side] x 2.5 x 13" (expandable to 23"). I was disappointed that it did not fit my drawer the way I intended leaving extra space and not arranged the way I desired, none of the measurements in the descriptions seem to match up. It's made of decent enough wood but it's definitely a little flimsy. Every time I open the drawer, it expands sometimes throwing utensils off, I suppose that's because I couldn't get it to fit the way it's intended. I am considering returning it because of the measurement problem and I don't know if it would hold up if I could fit it the right way.
